Flower Male happiness, or Anthurium - step-by-step instructions on how to plant it, tips for subsequent care
Home conditions are not suitable for growing anthurium from seeds. This method of reproduction is most often resorted to by breeders who want to breed a new species of plant.
It is much more convenient, faster and easier to propagate the flower vegetatively: for example, to plant.
In the article we will tell you how to choose the right pot, soil and divide the bush at home.
What should be considered before seating?
Anthurium grows to a large bush in about three to four years of life. It is this age that is most suitable for planting, because the plant has already formed a stable root system and reproduction will not cause harm to the flower, if all the rules are followed.
Important! If you plant an anthurium that has not reached the age of three to four years, it is likely that small anthuriums will bloom poorly, remain weak and in the worst of cases will not take root.Planting can be carried out starting from mid-February and ending with the beginning of March (during this period the plant is at rest, therefore, manipulations with the roots are easier to carry) simultaneously with the transplant. In extreme cases or if necessary, anthurium is planted from March to August.
Anthurium must be seated when:
- the flower is old;
- the pot became cramped, roots visible in the drainage holes.
Training
Before seating, you need to not only choose the right pot, but also find an acceptable and useful soil for anthurium.
Pot selection
Since the root system of Anthurium is superficial, deep pots are not suitable for it. A moderately wide, but not quite “flattened” pot is an ideal option, since water in such a container will not stagnate. Experts recommend choosing pots made of plastic or glass. Moisture evaporates faster from ceramic or clay pots.
You can plant anthurium in a clay pot, but so that the roots do not grow, the container should be covered with a layer of glaze inside.
Below is a table with an approximate suitable pot diameter for plants of different ages:
Anthurium Age | Pot diameter |
1-2 years | 11-14 cm |
3-4 years | 15-17 cm |
5-6 years old | 18-20 cm |
Pots from 14 to 17 cm are suitable in height.
Important! If the abundant color of the plant is important, you need to plant the anthurium in a slightly cramped pot. For the appearance of children, you need a wider capacity.Priming
Be sure to lay a drainage layer at the bottom of the pot (approximately 15% of the pot volume) to avoid stagnation of water and decay of the roots.
Anthurium needs a loose and well-drained, slightly acidic (pH-5.5-6.5) soil with a sufficient amount of nutrients into which air penetrates well. The flower will take well primer for aroid from the company "Biomaster". The following mixtures are also suitable:
- soil for azaleas;
- soil for begonias;
- soil for orchids.
Sod land is not suitable for the plant - it is able to clog the roots and block access to air.
As a rule, the base for the soil is anthurium horse peat. If there is no way to purchase it, any land with a slightly acid reaction is suitable for flowering species.
Step-by-step instructions for proper seating
- Half an hour before transplanting, you need to water the plant abundantly.
- Lightly tapping the walls of the pot, remove the anthurium, brushing off the substrate from the roots.
- Then the hardest part is to unravel the fragile roots. You can resort to cutting the roots with a knife only as a last resort. All minor injuries, “wounds,” are immediately sprinkled with crushed charcoal.
- Rotten, dead and dried roots are destroyed or discarded.
- Leave the anthurium for about an hour in the open air so that the plant dries.
- On the outside of the bush, offspring are separated from the flower.
- Look carefully at the depth to which the roots go deep into the soil - they are very sensitive. If the roots are left in the air, they will dry out. This will entail the death of the plant. The point of growth always remains above the surface of the earth.

First time care
After planting, anthurium needs watering. Subsequent watering is done as the top layer of the substrate dries. In the heat, in all possible ways they raise humidity: they cover the top of the soil with coconut fiber or sphagnum with wet moss, they constantly spray it.
Fifteen to eighteen degrees is an indicator of the temperature at which anthurium can survive, but it’s more comfortable for him to be twenty to twenty-four degrees Celsius. The plant loves diffused daylight, but it is better to protect it from direct sunlight. As fertilizers, humus, water diluted infusions of bird droppings or cow manure are suitable.
Important! The first top dressing is performed 2.5 months after transplantation.What to do if the plant does not take root?
If the flower hangs leaves, then you can sprinkle the plant with epin and place it under a plastic bag for a week. If the leaves began to turn yellow, most likely the plant:
- supercooled;
- receives little light;
- gets too much water, which causes its root system to rot;
- excessive use of fertilizers (burns appear in the root system).
Depending on the cause of yellowing, it is necessary to either put the anthurium in a warm, bright place without drafts, water less and less often, or fill in the water along the edges of the pot, or remove top dressing (about a month).
Mineral fertilizers cause great harm to the root system of Anthurium - they leave burns.
Anthurium is finicky, but reproduces easily, quickly acclimates and takes root, the main thing is to properly care for the plant. Propagation by a vegetative method, specifically seedling, not only brings several healthy offspring as a result, but also significantly rejuvenates anthurium.
