We make the walls in the nursery beautiful and practical

Repair in a children's room is a headache for parents throughout the life of a child under the parental wing. Strange as it may seem, children grow and develop, and their habits, priorities, skills and abilities, the characters they admire and love, change with them.

If for a baby who slept in his bed most of the time, you prepared a room in pastel colors for peace and tranquility, then a two-year-old baby wants activity and bright colors, knowledge of the world around him in all possible ways. It will take quite a few years and your baby will already be called a preschooler, his aspirations will change, the small universe will be painted with different colors. And you do not have time to blink an eye, how not a child will shout something from the child’s room, but a teenager who is not at all happy with the wallpaper with the bears. But more recently, he rejoiced and was touched by him.

In the children's room, the child spends a lot of time, especially in the early years of his life. The development of a small person is influenced by everything that surrounds an inquiring mind - colors, shapes and textures, phenomena, plots and moods. Only parents know what is best for their child - a calm neutral palette to soothe hyperactivity or bright colors to give tone and courage to a shy baby.

When making a nursery for a child older than two or three years, be sure to consult with the future owner of the room. You may be able to find out about the color preferences of the baby, his favorite characters, animals or fairy-tale characters. All this information can come in handy when planning the decoration of a children's room. Do not be alarmed if the child says that he loves the color orange and would like to see the walls of his room just like that. Accent orange spots can be used as a decor, to make a border around the perimeter of the room or to buy colorful stickers in a similar color palette with an image of a giraffe or the sun. In fact, there are a lot of options for wall decoration in children's rooms and some of them we will now look at specific examples of room interiors for children of different ages.

A few simple tips for the optimal choice of finishing materials for the children's room:

  • When choosing a wallpaper, pay attention to their environmental friendliness, the absence of toxic substances. Any covering of the walls of the nursery should “breathe”;
  • try to choose a wall decoration option that can be washed or cleaned without much effort;
  • do not choose too expensive wallpaper models (it is better not to consider the option with textile, "velvet" wallpaper and embossed). Children can paint walls, smear surfaces and better if the family budget does not fly into the pipe;
  • if the walls of the nursery will be painted, be sure to save the remnants of paint, perhaps soon you will need them to eliminate children's cravings for creativity.

Light walls or how to calm activity

If you know very well that your child is easily aroused, it takes a lot of time to calm down before going to bed and bright colors can only delay this process - choose a light neutral palette. Many parents believe that light wallpaper or snow-white painting for children is too easily soiled. In fact, if you choose a cleaning coating, it does not matter what color it is.

White color calms, adjusts to appeasement, gives a feeling of freedom and lightness. An active kid running over the whole day will be calm and comfortable in a bright room. But it is impossible to limit oneself to a light finish. Children's eyes need special focus, accents and bright spots are needed. If the walls of the nursery are light, then use bright colors to furnish, textiles for the bed or design window openings.

Light walls visually expand the space of the nursery, especially if the flooring is dark in this case. Against the background of white walls, even a dull decor looks advantageous. Photo frames with children's photos or drawings of a child can decorate the walls of his room.

An alternative to white painting can be a wallpaper in pastel colors with a barely noticeable pattern. They will not excite the emotions of the child, but at the same time create an interesting atmosphere in the room. It will be harmonious if you can repeat the pattern of wallpaper in the textile of curtains or pastel linen, pillow covers or bedspreads.

If you use neutral light tones for wall decoration, then on textiles and furniture you can say what is called "to recoup" - apply bright, colorful shades, a colorful pattern. In the end, when the child grows up, and the curtains with elephants cease to attract him, it will be possible to simply replace the decoration of window openings without starting a full-scale repair.

Murals, stickers and stencils

Painting the walls of the nursery in one tone only at first glance seems too boring option. In fact, this is a very practical design move. Children grow up, their addictions change, and not every family can afford to repair every 2-3 years. You can use a lot of options for decorating plain walls with improvised materials, without the involvement of professionals.

Special wall stickers can transform a monochromatic space of a nursery. Let the child choose the sticker himself, and if he is old enough, then take part in gluing. The awareness of taking part in the design of your room will give your child self-confidence, and the room will be closer and dearer to him.

A more complex, but no less beautiful way to decorate a wall in a children's room is to paint it with paints using themes that are close to the child. Of course, in this case, you can’t do without the help of a professional graphic designer, but the result will be worth it.

The use of photo wallpaper that can be painted as a design for one of the walls of a nursery is just a holiday for a child who is friends with pencils and felt-tip pens. Perhaps painting the walls of your own room is only the first step on the path to becoming a new artist.

Using even the simplest stencils, you can create an interesting and unique pattern on the walls. You can make stencils of any shape and size yourself or purchase finished products in stores selling decorative materials. Thanks to inexpensive fixtures and imagination, you can create a completely different interior for a child’s room.

By sticking special coloring stickers on the wall on which you can leave notes, drawings and anything else, you will not only save the main wallpaper or painting from children's art, but also give your child the opportunity to express himself in the "wall graphics".

Or you can use the option of "paper school board" - it’s washable black wallpaper on which you can draw and remove art with a damp sponge (usually a small rectangle is purchased for association with the school).

Accent wall in the nursery - add brightness

Why not use in the design of the children's room a technique that has been successfully practiced in the decoration of bedrooms, living rooms and other living rooms - emphasizing the accent wall using color, pattern or texture?

The most "popular" is the wall behind the head of the bed. It can be done in bright colors and not worry about the fact that before going to bed the child will be excited by the rich color.

In fact, any wall in a child’s room (or two children) can be accented, it all depends on the size of the room, the location of window and doorways and your preferences.

An interesting option for designing an accent wall (or part of it) is to place a map of a country, world or mainland. Or maybe your child is interested in history or myths and legends, in which case you can place a map of a kingdom that does not exist or the whole world invented.

The accent wall, decorated using wallpaper with photo printing, will help to create an amazing world in which the interests of your child, his favorite characters or animals, stories, tales and legends will be reflected. Wall murals can be made in any style, you can put a lot of different plots on them, there are practically no restrictions.

If you plan to use very bright colors for an accent wall, a variegated, large pattern or volumetric texture, it will be more harmonious if the remaining vertical surfaces are made in bright, plain color scheme.

Wall decoration in a room for a teenager

The grown-up child has changed interests, habits and priorities. Fairy-tale characters depicted on the walls of his room are no longer interesting, but new hobbies and aspirations have appeared. Now shelves with toys have been replaced by shelves with books and student supplies, and the design of the room is aimed at creating a favorable atmosphere for study and creative work.

Someone needs a neutral palette of wall decoration to calmly study and relax after class. For some teens, a bright interior is needed to feel in good shape. At this age, the child can already clearly say for himself what he would like to see in his mini-universe, what colors and shapes, design features. Parents can only compare the desires of the teenager with their financial capabilities.

Using brickwork in the interior of a preschooler’s nursery is probably not the best idea. But the space of an already grown child, who devotes most of his free time to studying, can be an original way to personalize a room. A teenager will be able to boast of an "adult" setting in front of friends.

If a teenager’s room cannot boast of spaciousness, it is better to use light surface finishes, and to add brightness and variety to the interior, design an accent wall in rich colors, possibly using a drawing, painting or ornament.
